It is clear that the value of a calf crop is related to the number and weight of calves, but you may be very surprised by how much those factors are influenced by the cows’ body condition.
Join this free webinar to learn more about the impact cows’ fat cover has on conception rates, calf health and weaning weights. Our guest speakers will explain how to accurately determine whether cows are under- or over-conditioned, and offer practical tips on how to manage their nutrition accordingly in order to economically increase the value of your calf crop.

Speakers
Naomi Paley – Regional Livestock Specialist with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture
Naomi has a B.Sc. in Agriculture with a major in Animal Science from the University of Saskatchewan. Naomi works with producers and industry on all aspects of production, nutrition and management. She is also involved with initiatives in the areas of herd genetics and improvement, low cost management practices and environmental farm planning.
Karin Schmid – Beef Production Specialist with Alberta Beef Producers
Karin grew up on a mixed farm near Keoma, AB, raising purebred Simmental cattle and grain, and is still involved to a limited extent. She has a Master’s Degree in Agriculture from the University of Alberta, which focused on the genetic and metabolic factors affecting feed efficiency in beef cattle. Before joining ABP, Karin spent just over four years with the Canadian Hereford Association as their Breed Development Coordinator. As the Beef Production Specialist for ABP Karin provides technical support in the areas of production, health, welfare, and research.
Mike Neilson– Owner/partner of Neilson Cattle Company
Mike, along with his wife Joanne own and operate Neilson Cattle Company, a purebred Charolais cattle operation selling 2-year old Charolais bulls, along with a commercial herd, and feedlot in Willowbrook, SK. Mike is a graduate of University of Guelph with degree in Animal Science. Mike utilizes the practice of body condition scoring as a tool to manage his herd.
What is a webinar?
Webinars are just like attending a workshop or conference, but from the comfort of your own home or office. We bring the presentation right to you. They’re easy to join and participate in. A reliable, high-speed internet connection is required.
All you need to do is register beforehand, and about 5-10 minutes before the webinar is scheduled to begin, click the link you were provided when you registered. Then turn up your computer speakers or call the phone number provided. That’s it! Sit back and enjoy. As a participant, you can anonymously answer polls and surveys, and will have the opportunity to ask questions near the end of the webinar.
